Played key role in developing Farmer app that helps farmers of citrus tree plantations to monitor the health status of every single tree in the plantation.

The client wanted to develop an app that is a complete Digital Tree Health Audit System (DTHAS). Through this app, the client wanted to help farmers who grow citrus tree in ochards/plantations through regularly monitoring individual tree health and providing advice to the farmers. The DTHAS records, analyses and interprets citrus tree data through this app. Key users of the app include Agri Experts, Advisors, Field Agents and Farmers.

My role:

  • I was involved right from the scratch in building the Farmer app. I was instrumental in creating wireframes, storyboards, sitemaps, and screen flows, in addition to development of prototypes of new products.
  • A lot of research was done through studying competitor apps in terms of the work flow, data collection, storage, and interactions between different stakeholders.
  • The research mainly focused on how to make the app easy to use for the end customers (Agri Experts, Advisors, Field Agents and Farmers), with losing the functionality. The user interface was developed based on this extensive research and we made the app as user-friendly as possible.
  • My interactions with the client included determining their objectives, creating work flows, regular collection of requirements and assigning them to the developers. As the scrum master, regular sprint follow-ups were performed with the team.
  • Once the build was ready, I was involved in performing usability tests and live on-field performance tests before delivering the app to the client.

Benefits of the app:

  • Digital Tree Health Audits give precise information on different problems affecting the trees in three categories viz. severely affected, moderately affected and slightly affected
  • Agri experts provide advice to farmers at individual tree-level
  • Farmers are better informed about the health of trees in their plantation
  • Farmer can save costs on chemicals and fertilizers through local application rather than applying to the entire plantation
  • A database on the history of individual trees is built systematically through periodic audits
